Alex graduated with a BVSc from Massey University in 2007 and has practiced veterinary medicine in both New Zealand and in the UK. He started his veterinary career in the beautiful Golden Bay region of the South Island and gained experience in both large animal and companion animal medicine and surgery. Following this, Alex travelled to the UK and practiced in many areas of England before returning home to settle in Taranaki. He is vastly experienced in the field of small animal medicine and surgery, having special interests in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. Outside of work Alex enjoys outdoor pursuits, squash and spending time with family and friends.
He is a director and founder of Vets4Pets, together with his partner Helen.
Helen has been living in Taranaki since early 2009, where she started her career with Inglewood Vet Services (now Energy Vets) in Inglewood & Waitara. Since that time she has also worked in New Plymouth, and volunteered her veterinary services overseas while on her OE travelling through Africa and Europe. She is passionate about ensuring people feel good about their veterinary clinic, making sure they feel understood and their needs are met, and developing solid relationships to improve animal care. She has special interests in internal medicine, including medical imaging. In her free time Helen loves fishing, vegetable gardening, and quality time with loved ones.
Together with Alex, the pair have an exuberant young boxer “Rubi”, an elderly weimaraner “Sam”, a tolerant birman cat “Bruce” and a yard full of chickens.
Linda registered as a vet after completing studies in 2016 and volunteered briefly with the SPCA before moving to New Plymouth. She is the most recent vet addition to the Vets4Pets team and is enjoying working in a close-knit team while receiving lots of mentorship and support. Linda enjoys seeing all types and sizes of animals coming through the clinic and is enthusiastic about all aspects of being a vet. When she’s not at the clinic she can be found tramping, baking at home or skyping her family pet “July” - a boisterous and mischievous Border Collie.
Abbey joined our team as a vet nurse in October 2015. She is Taranaki born and bred and has completed her Certificate in Veterinary Nursing through Otago Polytechnic's distance learning course. Abbey has lots of experience working with pet owners and their much loved animals. She also has a menagerie of her own at home with her two dogs Atlas and Zeus, her cats Greyson & Pascalle, and her rabbit Biscuit. Abbey is also passionate about photography, especially photographing both domestic and wild animals.
Nicky joined our nursing team in early 2016. She first trained as a vet nurse 22 years ago and has a lifelong passion for all animals, from cats and dogs, to cows and sheep. Nicky is also a local, having grown up on a dairy farm in Okato. These days Nicky is kept busy with her three children Daniel, Jordan & Sarah and her cat Jasper. Nicky has a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing and is working towards her diploma.
Lisa recently moved to New Zealand from England to be closer to her family. Her family have recently purchased and renovated the Paws and Claws Kennels and Cattery in Egmont Village. Lisa works at the Kennels several days a week as well as covering nursing and reception duties here at Vets4Pets on Tuesday's. While in England Lisa completed a Diploma in Animal Management and has a passion for the welfare and care of all animals. Lisa enjoys horse riding, cooking and hanging out with her mates including her family’s 6 dogs, a cat, sheep and chickens.
Paige recently returned to New Plymouth after working in Wellington and joined the team in July 2017. She has a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology which she studying in Palmerston North before relocating to Wellington for work after graduation. Paige has a cavoodle named Molly, and enjoys baking, netball and spending time with family & friends.
Amber moved back to her hometown of New Plymouth after most recently working at Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the emergency department. She is due to finish her Diploma studies in 2017. Amber has a black labrador called Gypsy and two rescue kittens (brothers), Flash and Salem. In her spare time she enjoys reading, studying all things veterinary care, gardening and spending time with family.
Katrina recently moved to New Plymouth from Australia with her husband and joined the team in October 2016. She has vast administration and business experience in a wide range of industries and looks after the day-to-day management of the clinic. Katrina has two spoilt pugs, Zayd & Frankie, and enjoys writing, baking and travelling.
Victoria is originally from Wellington and now resides in New Plymouth. She is studying Vet Nursing full time through Otago Polytechnic. Victoria has always loved and owned animals, and has bred rabbits and fostered cats and kittens. She volunteered at an animal shelter in Wellington and fosters for the North Taranaki SPCA. Victoria has a gorgeous persian kitten, Clementine, and enjoys spending time with family & friends, going to the beach and shopping.
Catherine hails from New Plymouth and joined the team in April 2017. She studied a Certificate in Animal Care through Otago Polytech, and volunteers weekly at the North Taranaki SPCA. Catherine also works zookeeping on the weekends at Pouakai Zoo. She has a life-long love of animals and had always wanted to be an “animal rescuer”. Catherine has a passion for music, singing and is a big fan of musical theatre.
