We stock a range of flea and worm treatments to cater for your pets’ needs.
Fleas are an ongoing issue for many household pets causing intense itching. They may only need to bite your animal once to set off a reaction that can drive a pet crazy. Some pets are more susceptible than others to getting an inflammatory reaction, even requiring medications to settle their skin down. The problem of fleas is becoming a year round dilemma.
Treatment options need to incorporate regular treatment of all pets in the household to provide effective control. We can offer advice on the safest and most effective option for your pet - which will depend on their age, weight, stage of life and personal preferences.
Once fleas are established, they are very difficult to get on top of! 95% of the fleas exist in the environment as larvae / pupae / eggs, so the fleas that you see on your pet are only 5% of the population that is in and around your home! Often environmental treatments such as flea bombs, as well as treating your pets, are needed to get rid of severe infestations.
Worms are most problematic in young animals and are a common cause of poor growth, weight loss and diarrhoea. Puppies and kittens need several regular treatments as they grow to ensure that the many species of worms are treated effectively. Roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms, and hookworms are all common in both dogs and cats. If infestations are high enough, worms can even lead to death in young animals.
We recommend that puppies and kittens are wormed every 2 weeks until they are 3 months old, then monthly until they are 9 months old, then 3 monthly. Adult dogs and cats also need to be treated for worms regularly - ideally every 3 months. They are still at risk and some of these worms are even transmissible to people.
These parasites may be of concern in some situations, please talk to one of our staff if you have any questions.
